When other teachers gave up on my son, there was one teacher at Rylander who did not. My son was lucky to be in Mrs. Schulz's class. He was challenged, motivated and learned more than I could have ever imagined. Thanks Mrs. Schulz! We are forever in your debt.

This school used to be great, but there are now over 1300 kids in the school. Do not send your kids to this school unless you want to indoctrinate them to jailhouse life or military school. They are barely allowed to whisper at lunch, recess has been cut, and then the teachers wonder why the kids are getting marks every day. We've sent three kids through this school. It was great for the older two, but I thank goodness my youngest is in fifth grade and we will no longer have to deal with this insanity. And Katy ISD has no plans to rezone anyone to help with the overcrowding. I feel for the families that have years left. Why is this school at 130% of capacity and the adjacent school at 80%? The district hasn't answered that question for us yet, though we've asked repeatedly.

We have had some great teachers at Rylander, and met some great parents. However, the size is ridiculous, and I don't believe the district has any plans to relieve this campus. The traffic situation for example is out-of-control, completely disorganized and with people not following the prescribed directions whatsoever! Not to mention traffic on Westheimer Pkwy zooms through there with no regard for school speeds, likewise no regard for a herd of young children walking along the sidewalk, not two feet away from the road, traveling to the fire station. I'm also concerned that when going off campus on field trips etc., adults are not asked to Raptor in (the security/background scan), even though they are with students all day. And the back of the school is really unsecured, with no gates to be locked or even closed, so that the multiple portable buildings, kids going to recess and so forth are not secured. The portables are slightly awful anyway, virtually un-climatized, and then students have to take a key and a buddy to travel to the main (locked and secured) building every time they need to use the restroom. Supposed-to-be-temporary buildings are a poor long-term "fix."

We move frequently (through multiple states) and Rylander has been by far the best school my children have attended. The teaching staff is amazing, along with their administration. One of my children has multiple learning disabilities and at other schools she was shunned by teachers and labeled a trouble maker, at Rylander she was loved, and flurished.

My experience at Rylander has been quite different from the other reviews. I volunteered there all year and saw things that really call for change. First of all, the school is overcrowded, which I understand is unavoidable at this time, but because of it's large size the school is run military style. The kids are to be seen and not heard. When I joined my son for lunch it was tough to watch kids being scolded non-stop for every little thing. The front desk staff is rude, unhelpful and I witnessed them berate children. Remember where you work and that you have an impact on these kids. Learn some patience and respect. Lastly, 15-20 minutes of recess is unacceptable, especially when you expect children to be calm and quiet all day. I've come up with a few different solutions to the playground dilemma, so there is no excuse. The one positive was my sons teacher. She was great and made the year bearable.

I went to Rylander from 2005-2009, K-4th (switched to homeschooling), and was an amazing school. Most of my teachers were kind and all of them were well trained. I did very well (exculding Kindergarden) and loved it. The lunches were great. Now, like any school, it comes with some social problems and proto-cliques, but all schools do. The staff have made sure that bullying is not a problem, and were only a few unkind kids. Best school i've ever been to.

Rylander can not be beat-- right from the start it was GREAT. My daughter was in the first Kndergarten class and my son is going into 5th grade this year. All of their teachers have been wonderful and have instilled in them the love of learning.

This school is absolutely fantastic!! My son, in 3rd grade and my daughter in 1st grade are amazing students because the teachers and staff are fantastic at making these little minds work at top notch. We moved from AZ in 2007. The teachers, staff and friends made a difficult move, much easier. Go Rockin Rhinos!!

We moved to Cinco Ranch specifically so our son could attend kindergarten at Rylander. We were blessed with an amazing teacher, she was so creative and fun, and he couldn't wait to go to school each day! The art and music programs are outstanding. We had great parents in our class too, lots of involvement. GO RHINOS!!!

We moved here in 2005 from Florida mainly because of the wonderful schools in Katy. I have 2 children attending Rylander in grades 3 and 4 and I'm so happy with this school. The teachers are WONDERFUL, the children have access to the best learning materials and technology, the library is superb and the staff is both caring and involved. My children are always being challenged in their learning and are thrilled with their school!! GO RHINOS :-)

Both of my children have been at this school ever since it was built (in 2004) and both of them love it. The teachers couldn't be nicer to the children while very competent. The parents are very involved and there is no bullying among the children. I'd recommend that school to anybody.

We moved to Katy from Canada about 4 months ago and are very happy with the Rylander Elementary. The teachers and other staff are very friendly and supportive. They were very accomodating in getting my grade 1 and grade 3 kids caught up to the Katy ISD curriculum. Both of our kids feel welcome and have adapted well because of the supportive environment at Rylander. If you have a choice, choose Rylander!
