Fred And Patti Shafer Elementary School10

Katy, TX | Harris County

September 30, 2014

Rezoned from Stanley to Shafer, what I can say? I miss Stanley with all my heart! At Shafer, teachers (at least my kid's two teachers) take more than 48 hours two reply emails, principal? Still waiting on a reply after a week I emailed her. VERY DISORGANIZED! Nothing compared to Stanley, unfortunately I will have to sell and buy a new house so my kids can attend Stanley, and not in our plans right now. Mr and Mrs Shafer are always present, marvelous couple! I hope they get to change and do things better.

We have had a wonderful experience with two boys at Shafer. We are very involved parents in academics and sports and love this environment that the Principal, her team, and the Shafers have carefully created. Example: With one son's class, we noticed at the beginning of the year that we were receiving the class newsletter in the middle of the week, a bit late to get involved as a parent in the week's coming assignments and material. All it took was a call to the Principal who is very involved and excited about the school. We immediately began receiving the newsletters ahead of the week without miss. These are the details that make a school great. The Principal's meticulous involvement , the high quality teachers many who live in the area, and the Shafers makes this an A+ school and tops in Katy ISD. And let's not forget the parents who are very involved.

Shafer Elementary School is a wonderful campus with incredible teachers, administration and staff. Every single morning the principals and counselors are outside helping with the car line and greeting students. I have personally seen the principal outside in the pouring rain, making sure all the students get to their parents after school. This school year (2013-2014) is Shafer's second year open and the school is crowded, but that will be resolved with the opening of two new elementary schools in the district. Katy ISD and Shafer Elementary are great and work hard to earn and keep their fabulous reputation. When moving to and selecting Katy ISD, be mindful that there is astronomical population growth here in Katy and that the school board and each campus are doing everything they can to uphold that wonderful reputation. If you can't be patient with the growth, then Katy ISD is probably not the best place for you.

I am super impressed by Ms. Leung at Shafer. When we moved to TX, my son had a very hard time adjusting. Ms. Leung quickly stepped in & got him involved in 3 different activities to help him adjust. It worked! My son now LOVES Shafer! In addition, Ms. Leung does an amazing job with special needs programming. ("Special Buddies") I wish my older son had that when he was in elementary school. Parent involvement is strong & fantastic as well! Happy parent!

This school has proven to be very disappointing. Low quality teachers and difficult admin. Would never recommend this campus to anyone.

We moved to the Houston area about a year ago and selected Katy ISD because of their "wonderful" reputation. I have been incredibly disappointed in this school and its administration from the moment I registered my children. I have found that the school treats everything as a process and loses sight of the fact that they are dealing with children who need a nurturing and encouraging environment. The principal has very little presence on campus. I never see her interacting with the children. Mr. and Mrs. Shafer do maintain a presence on campus and seem to be very nurturing to the children. I just wished that the teachers and administration also reflected that same care for children. Kids are more than a test score and deserve to be treated as such.

I love this school. Before my daughter started in this school, she tended to be clingy and at times shy in groups of people. She has grown - leaps and bounds. Has literally blossomed and absolutely adores her teacher. Even though she is strict I can see what a fantastic job she is doing. Every time I walk to her school I marvel at how lucky she is to be exposed to all the facilities this school has to offer. Everyone seems genuinely nice, from the lovely ladies at the front desk, to the teachers etc. Can't wait to see how this school flourishes in the coming years.

This is a brand new school and has some growing pains as would be normal for any new school. All in all, two of my sons actually love this school with all their heart and we love the school as well. We have great teachers, a highly plugged in PTA and generous family involvement. So far we have been extremely pleased and are thankful for our positive experience. The specials teachers : special nod to our beautiful music teacher who has gone above and beyond to include my extremely shy little kindergartener in a loving way and I am so thankful for you! I think it can only get better. Every time I walk the halls I literally marvel at what a gift a school like this is to my children. I also feel like the community truly has a substantial hand in helping this school reach great heights and its comforting to know there is always someone there (a neighbor helping for instance) you just know your kiddos are in great hands.
